THE UNEXPƎCTED

TRAILER

Synopsis

The Unexpected explores the unpredictable nature of human life through two stories interconnected by the underlying theme of unexpected consequence that appears beyond the control of the characters in the two stories - Mirror in the Water and The Poisonous.

Mirror in the Water deals with man’s ambition, love and loss - To what faith is love , to what fate,,,

The Poisonous explores crime and its retribution - A sword that kills, Oh! To live by it…

Each story is preceded with the roll of a dice - in each case the outcome is unexpected.

The dice rolls …..

In Mirror in the water, the protagonist Raj Sen, a famous author and professor , retires to a seaside UK town due to early onset dementia. He is writing a new novel , perhaps his last, that is a reckoning with his past. Through a collage of scenes of Raj and his wife, of a recurrent dream , of chapters from his new novel, and his hallucinations featuring Amrita, his first love , the story builds up to a poignant crescendo with an unexpected denouement that explores the fate of Raj, an erudite and ambitious but selfish man. …

To what faith is love , to what fate,,,

The dice rolls a second time….

In The Poisonous, Ms. Sumita Bose, is a high-flying executive, living in London. She entices a shady antique dealer, Mr. Samaddar, to visit her for an antique umbrella with a poison chamber in its ferrule - an apparently innocuous and beautiful weapon designed to kill. Though , through their conversation, Samaddar finds out that Sumita is aware that he had swindled her archaeologist father with tragic outcome, in his greed and callousness, he offers her a blank cheque to reconsider her decision of not parting with the umbrella but while trying to check the authenticity of the umbrella he meets with an unexpected minor accident. He returns home to wonder whether the minor accident was trivial after all . We return to Ms. Bose and perhaps become witness to retribution - but by whose decree?….

A sword that kills, Oh! To live by it…
